Nicolas Lassonde speaks on the new anti-spam legislation

On May 31, 2011, Nicolas Lassonde, who practises in the business law group, gave a conference on the new anti-spam legislation commonly known as the Fighting Internet and Wireless Spam Act during a forum hosted by the Quebec Technology Association. Mr. Lassonde discussed the specificities of this legislation as well as the new challenges which it will present for electronic communications.

LJT renewed once again this year its partnership with the Association des professionnels de la communication et du marketing (APCM) for this popular event which took place last June 13 and which is attended by many professionals from the communication and marketing industry. In addition to the firm’s usual sponsorship of the jacks, two members of LJT, Roxane Colpron and Marjolaine Gagnon, oversaw the organization of this event, in particular, the petanque tournament. The trio formed by Marc Legault and Astrik Karapetian, as well as Ms Danielle Lefrançois from Advertising Standards Canada, offered an honourable performance in the tournament’s finale against the winning team, made up of members from Infopresse. Despite unfavourable weather, spirits were high. We wish to thank our clients Lolë and Marché Public 440 for their contribution to this event.

Henri Nahabedian lectures on the incorporation of physicians and of dentists

Henri Nahabedian was recently invited by branches of the Royal Bank of Canada to present lectures to their clients regarding the incorporation of physicians and of dentists. He namely discussed strategies that can be used by physicians and by dentists to reduce their income taxes through income splitting techniques that are permitted by law.

Lyne Robichaud and Robert B. Legault take part in a trade mission in New York

Robert Legault and Lyne Robichaud, who practise in the advertising, entertainment law and intellectual property group, were part of an important delegation from Quebec including advertising agencies, businesses, organizations and professionals from the advertising industry which met in the Big Apple during New York’s Advertising Week that took place from October 3 to October 7, 2011. This trade mission, hosted by the Association of Quebec Advertising Agencies (AAPQ), aimed to present the talent of Quebec’s advertising professionals and share it with the New York industry and the international scene and also to showcase Montreal as a creative hub.

Marjolaine Gagnon and Julie Maronani to speak on Canada�s new anti-spam legislation

On October 28, 2011, Marjolaine Gagnon and Julie Maronani, who practise in the advertising, entertainment law and intellectual property group, will speak on Canada’s new anti-spam legislation at a colloquium entitled « Can we still speak of privacy? » hosted by the Association des Juristes pour l’Avancement de la Vie Artistique (AJAVA). Ms Gagnon and Ms Maronani will discuss the specifics of this legislation which presents new challenges for electronic communications.

Ticket resellers: The show must go on� but not at any price.

As of June 7th, 2012, no merchant will be allowed to sell to a consumer a ticket for a show, sporting or cultural event, exhibition or any other kind of entertainment at a price greater than the one announced by the vendor authorized by the event producer.

Indeed, section 236.1 of the Consumer Protection Act will come into force on that date. This section of Bill 25 aims to prohibit ticket resellers from buying tickets in bulk and reselling them to consumers at a higher price.

Such practice will no longer be possible unless the event producer has consented to it.

The law will not prohibit the resale of tickets at a different price between consumers, but it will allow the Office de la protection du consommateur to institute penal proceedings against professional resellers who do not abide by this new section.
